Fear Factory: Mechanize
Fear Factory - Mechanize - [Candlelight Records]

2010-04-16

In the latest chapter of the bands soap opera, Fear Factory has reunited and are blasting back their way to the top of death metal top bands list where they used to be. If you haven't been around in the past few years, then here is a little update: Dino Cazares, the bands guitarist and one part of the two leaders of the band had quit due to several continuing egocentric fights with the lead singer Burton C. Bell. They disbanded a short while after that. Cazares went on to form Divine Heresy. Meanwhile his former bans mate have decided to reform Fear Factory without him, and the two sides went into court because Cazares has rights on the bands name.

Last summer, the two sides had opened a new chapter in the story. Cazares rejoined the group and they have now released Mechanize, the bands seventh album.
In this album the band decided to return to their roots, resulting in a great output and a great reunion. The albums atmosphere runs between their first album, Soul of a New Machine, and their second LP, Demanufacture. So its basically pure death metal with machine samples that the band made their trademark. Cazares has added some lead guitar solos, something that wasn’t a big part of the band before, but well cut out in Divine Heresy. I guess he liked it, and redesigned it as F.F. Burnes is managing to play well with his voice, combining death metal growls on one hand, and high and clean on the other. The greatest addition to this album is the drummer. He is one of my favorites, Gene Hoglan (Death, Dark angel, Iced Earth and many others). This guy is unbelievable; he is like a chameleon and can fit into every form of music.

This album talks about the machine mostly. It seems that they decided that it suited them well to keep tracks with their lyrics from the past as well as their music. There are some lyrics about other topics like animal testing (Crash Test) or the loss of a close friend (Final Exit), but most of the songs talk about the machine, and the future war: man against the machine.

So guys and girls, we have here a great album, just in time for summer, and the guys will be touring and crashing places with new heavy material. Check it out. You wont regret it!
