Slayer: World Painted Blood
Slayer - World Painted Blood - [American Recordings]

2009-11-29

It's 2009, and nothing has changed. Slayer is still kicking and screaming. The well- oiled thrash machine has merely changed throughout the years, and I guess you know why?
World Painted Blood continues to ride on the same path that Slayer has been headed on in the past few albums. Just from listening to the first song you can here it. It's the classic 1988 Slayer, with some adjustments. In each album they try (but just a little bit) something new, but it all stays under the Slayer sound jacket.

Tom Araya is still screaming his guts out, and continues to amaze me after all those years of screaming. Kerry King and Jeff Hannmens well known guitar riffs are fastly executed, but still sound the same as in all of their albums. And last but not least, the returning drummer, Dave Lombardo, still play the drums with the strength and accuracy he is known for.

The topics of this album are diverse. Songs that describe the evilness of the society at large like Snuff, or criticizing the U.S.A government oil deals in the song Americon.
But for the old-school fans, don't feel abandoned; there are still plenty of brutal and satanic topics and lyrics.
In the past few years, Tom Araya has been talking about making another two albums and then spilt up the band. I don’t see it happening very soon. As long as they keep doing their thing, Slayers legacy will live on. Just ask AC/DC and Motörhead.
