Grimlord: Dolce Vita Sath-anas
Grimlord - Dolce Vita Sath-anas - [Trident Harmony]

2009-11-13

Grimlord's second album is out. The polish band was formed on the debris of the black metal band, Vallachia around the year 2000. After a few line up changes, and tons of concerts, the band released their debut album in 2007 called "Blood Runneth Over" . After several more changes to the line up, and in 2009, the band released "Dolce Vita Sath Anas”. From a quick search I got the impression of a mix between melodic death, with black metal roots, and a side dish of some thrash and power metal. Boy, is that a big meal or what?.

Listening to the album, it seems they have lived up to their promise. In the first song, I got some classic old death metal riffs, complimented by some black metal. It sounds like these guys have been working together for some time. The sacred heavy metal triangle sound, constructed by the formula of drums-guitar riffs-guitar solos, was well written. My only problem was the lead singer,Barth La Picard. His vocal effort, as well as the logic of his singing, do not match the instrumental level of the band.
Basically, his singing pretty much got in my way, and was at times annoying. The next two songs (When The Heads Are Going Down, and Oh! My King) were pretty much the same, good music, bad vocals.

Coming up to the fourth song, I was blessed with a change of season by the band. Someone out there heard my prayers. At this point the band had decided to give up on the vocals, and the rest of the album is instrumental. Now I got to enjoy all that is good from this band. Lots of old school speed and power metal, straight from the 80's. Tons of roots from Metallica to Halloween, and all professionally executed.
