Insanity Arise: Insanity Is Your Deadliest Weapon
Insanity Arise - Insanity Is Your Deadliest Weapon - [Self-released]

2008-03-24

There isn't a whole lot to say about this young band's demo clocking at about 13 minutes total, consisting of three full songs which show little, if any, variation or innovation to the global metal scene. As a self-proclaimed "Swedish oriented death/thrash metal" outfit, Italy's Insanity Arise sound suspiciously close to American-style metalcore that's extremely popular these days – thus not being able to stand out in any particular way. The 'market' is over swamped with look-alikes and copy-cats claiming they're the best new thing and Insanity Arise are not much different.

After a sinister-sounding intro, marked "Insane Whispers" (stating the obvious, are we?), the lacking "Spitting Blood" enters. Drums are pretty monotonous, riffs aren't too original and there's a great shortage in melody where it is most needed. Next number, "Painting My Death", does start better but continues to score low in the melody section – they just aren't catchy enough or disharmonic enough for this style of music, whatever the direction of it may be.
A faster take, with some potential, surfaces with "Bloody Painful Life". Vocalist Daniele Rizzetto's pterodactyl-like screams take a slightly more extreme manner, a 'crazier' tone, giving the song a bit more character but it ultimately fails just where all the rest do – there's nothing that catches the ear and make you want to listen to it so much.

Besides a pretty good sound for a demo, there isn't much meat on "Insanity Is Your Deadliest Weapon". Well, they do show some potential, and can play OK together, but in the ocean of bands that exist today, there's a certain need to be outstanding in order to get somewhere. If only they would take it more to the extreme, manifesting the band's name, and actually put in some Swedish death/thrash on the next release – it would be worth a listen (and a purchase).
