Tribeca: What Are You Waiting For
Tribeca - What Are You Waiting For - [Urbanite Records]

2003-06-24

Imagine a foggy day in Manchester. Gray buildings against the gray sky, single rain drops falling over and between the people on the street…
Tribeca creates urban music with simple structures and conceptual complexity.
Its not easy - capturing the musical essence of a city and communicating that essence over and above the words and melody…
The style tends to be some sort of trip-hop with elctro-rock… ”astrochild” reminds a lot of Broadcast while “city breeze” also reminds a bit of Iona with Gaynor Black jazz-like singing.
But the main theme “what are you waiting for” is something completely different.
“what are you waiting for” is the kind of song you’ll hear in any modern romantic comedy or in the radio on Sunday morning.
Classic and electric guitars plus real drums and some mild programming, all creates a happy electro-folk style with a good vibe.
Black sings those sweet catchy melodies with a good clear voice.
Phil Birchenall smart melodic rhythmics sits just perfect with Tom Chapman simple and smooth bass lines. Urbanites production has a distinct British sound that can’t be created anywhere else in the world.
“what are you waiting for” is the bands third cd-single and first one with new and amazing singer Gaynor Black. Future releases can be heard in an Mp3 compilation by Urbanite alongside other signed bands like My Mate Mark and Ithaca.
