Slovakia's Midnight Scream have delivered what is basically an enjoyable prog/power release here, it does sound quite raw around the edges, but it's still pretty good for a self released effort for this band.
This is the band's third release, and a certain amount of experience is evident. It's a combination of quite heavy, thrashy guitars with a heavy dose of orchestral keyboard work, a solid rhythm section and some rather high melodic vocals that throw this closer to power metal territory. Such songs as the second one – "Infected Transport" – have a good sense of writing in them, and the guitars take a more prominent role which fits them well, but the band doesn't do as well in the title track, when it seems the certain proginess of the music makes this a bit over-complex and the track is far from catchy.
The best thing about this release is easily the guitar work, though the other players are no slouches, it's the great lead work that makes most of the stuff work. The main problem I had here is the use of double, or group vocals, which sounds a bit hurried and inaccurate at times, they certainly need to put more time and effort into the vocal production next time.
To sum it all up- it's quite a solid release, with some nice moments for those in for quite a heavy power metal release. There are some setbacks, but mainly it works.
