German hard rockers Up In Hell deliver what is quite an enjoyable hard rock album with some metallic heaviness thrown in too. There's no surprising or innovative music here, but it's a well crafted, well played album which is just fun to listen to.
The first track, "Out Of My Way", is a good example of the head-on approach these guys take, sleazy sounding hard rock with a punk attitude; the band's main strengths are the strong, throaty vocals, and the solid musicianship. The fact it's all backed up by a clear and crisp sound helps the album quite a lot.
"Blowin'" is a good example of the merits of having a good bass player, the bass line here just elevates what is already a good track into something more. The best track here however, is the driving and energetic "Bring My Blood", with what is probably the best chorus on the album.
They go in some different ways too, "Virus" has a slower, more metallic side that the band also carries out well, but it's their fast and dirty hard rock that really sounds best for them, their true calling lies there.
So… well played, produced well, mostly short- catchy songs, this will appeal to fans of American hard rock with a punk attitude and fans of current Euro hard rock in the vein of Sweden's
Gluecifer, I have to say I was pleasantly surprised here.
