Pooch: Individual
Pooch - Individual - [Medea Records]

2003-05-14

Up until 6 years ago Pooch could have gained worldwide success. Toady they must stand in line with dozens of other bands trying to get into the center stage alongside bands such as Incubus and Tool.
Pooch’s advantage focus on guitar player, Dion, excellent programming that gives this album a more sophisticated electronic approach.

“Individual” combines good, up-to-date nu-metal and excellent experimental tracks combining nu-metal with dub or industrial or just pure ambient.
Also Pooch does not try to duplicate any other band in the field like some of the other nu-metal hangers. They can remind the listener of Faith-No-More, Incubus or Disturbed at some parts but the result is all Pooch.
The album consists of a lot of average alternative hits but it’s the more unique and experimental parts that made me appreciate it.
Songs like the psychedelic “Entropy” with the clean guitar parts and then the heavy metal on the raving arpeggiator or the following song “Solarbaby”, an ambient trip hop that gives a moment of serenity in the album.
Even the M.T.V type hits keep a high standard profile, with lowered guitar riffs like in songs like “Plastic” or “Change it Up” and the dubish “my proxy” with the high speed cymbal work at the chorus.
“Individual” is one of the more original nu-metal albums I’ve got to hear. Recommended in high volume.
