Conspiracy: Reincarnated
Conspiracy - Reincarnated - [Pulverised Records]

2006-12-25

I have to admit this release kind of threw me off, with cover artwork courtesy of the great Dan Seagrave this looks like an old school death metal album, as does the logo, but musically this is thrashy black metal, played with a strong technical ability and filled to the brim with menacing atmosphere.

Actually a one man project, Conspiracy started out with the Ukrainian Carpathian Wolf, who started out the project back in 1988, and then moved to the Netherlands, only to release his debut now. Judging from the quality of this album, it was well worth the wait.

"Virgin's Blood" starts off slowly enough, with a gradually building of melody before bursting into a strong black metal track, the most important thing about this release is the quality of the playing here, great drumming with some solid riffs, the guy knows what he's doing. The title track starts off with some eerie rain and nature sounds before a clear guitar part that sounds as if taken from a heavy metal album, in a few minutes it turns into hateful black metal with a strong riff basis.

There's more, "Carpathian" is as strong as black metal gets, it's melodic without relying on keyboard carpets, it's just well played and well written enough to sound good.

If the guy can turn this into a proper group, taking its music on the road, I think there's a future awaiting Conspiracy's music, as a black metal album its one of the better ones I've heard this year.
