Wolfen: The Truth Behind
Wolfen - The Truth Behind - [SinSin Music]

This is actually this German's band fourth full length release, and you can certainly hear the experience these guys have hear, to put it simply, they deliver quite well-made and well-produced melodic speed metal which should probably bring to mind other current thrash/speed bands such as fellow countrymen Perzonal War.

While opener "The Last Chance" is definitely well executed and quite heavy, with vocalist Andreas Von Lipinski doing a mean Chuck Billy voice, with some death growls as well, it's not the strongest cut on the album, the chorus is a bit too melodic.

Things shape up in the second track, "Zeros & Heroes", great thrash riffs, a strong vocal performance by Lipinski, with some added Judas Priest influence in some of the verses, this is great stuff indeed. Things continue nicely with the faster "Rain", classic 80's thrash, all the different ingredients click here, with the rhythm section holding things together.

"Raisin' Hope" is a longer, more epic track, again, strong thrash riffs with some Iron Maiden-ish harmony leads strewn in as well, again, I though the chorus could have been a bit less melodic, but it still works.

"Y2K" is one of my favorites here; strong speed riff with some growled vocals by Lipinski, his later melodic delivery is very well done and sits in great with the track.
Another great song, held by a good riff, is "Another Hunger", it's more measured and sophisticated, a bit different than what the band does here most of the time, the chorus is a highlight, and the great lead in the middle is a treat as well. Another great riff is the middle section in "The Deception" which goes into another good lead part.

The guys do not try doing anything too modern here, and that's good. They stick to what they know – melodic speed/thrash with some heavy metal in the mix; it's heavy, melodic and professional sounding, I'm certainly glad to have known this band.
