Belgian Death metallers Ordeal are a straightforward death metal band, no technical compositions, no overly melodic riffs, just simple, oldschool death metal. The band started out way back in 1991, but has only just released this, their debut, and it certainly sounds like something which was written back then, only better produced.
I can’t really say this is anything too amazing, its simple and brutal death metal with some solid playing and strong death metal growls, there's no distinct character to the band, but they do their death metal well.
Stand out tracks are mostly the faster ones, such as Duel, the fourth, some strong riffs and awe-inspiring drumming, again, it's nothing too groundbreaking, its just solid death metal that brought to mind the initial work by such bands as Entombed and Cemetery. Reversal is another good example, quite fast and brutal; the band has a good basis in their drummer, who impresses with his work here, some solid riffing as well, a good lead and interesting bass work.
Again, it's nothing new or too amazing, its just solid death metal with an oldschool aroma, for those who thrive on the genre.
