It was a real loss for metal when guitarist Jesse Pintado passed away recently; the man has created the first Terrorizer record, a grind classic if there is one, and also made a decent band out of
Napalm Death, participating on what I perceive as one of the best death metal albums ever released – Harmony Corruption.
It is a sad fact for me to say that the man's last album, Terrorizer's long awaited second album, is a shambles of an album, combining extremely capable musicians that somehow fail to create a memorable or interesting album. The original line up for David Vincent and Oscar Garcia, who shares vocal duties on the original, is changed for a new vocalist called Anthony Rezhawk, who has a really good growl, but he's locked within the confines of uninteresting and basic songs that go nowhere.
From the opener title track to the second – "Crematorium", it's just fast paced grind with a hardcore base, the drumming by Pete Sandoval is as impressive as always, as are some of the riffs, such as the mid-section in the track, but it really doesn’t go anywhere. The only thing better than the original here is the sound, much clearer and punchier, but that's about it.
I guess this will satisfy die-hard Terrorizer and grind fans who waited for this for years, but it's still just another grind album with very little going for it.
