Dead Memories: Drowning
Dead Memories - Drowning - [Self-released]

2006-10-16

This is quite a decent self release by this young German melo-death band, infusing some Gothenburg melodic death with some old school leanings.

The sound on the release is not half-bad, it does come off as raw, but quite clear, certainly more than can be expected from a self released effort, the opening, acoustic "Drowning" is a bit unneeded, but once things start warming up with "Lethe" they pull off what is quite a solid melodic death track.

"Invisible Enemy" is one of the strongest cuts, thrash riffs with some good guitar work, its nothing new or too original, but it's just well done and nicely put together. "Buried Alive" adds some nice touch with something akin to a folk riff, which reminded me of classic Amorphis, not bad. Past has a fast opening riff, again, quite simplistic, but well played, I liked the drum-guitar combination on the track. Same goes for "Burden Of Immortality", another folky track with some different, almost black metal vocals as well.

These guys need to add something of their own to the music, but all-in-all it's more than decent, quite well played, and has some good potential to it.
