Codeon - On My Side - [Dies Irae Records]

Finland's Codeon have put out an EP that some people who wrote about them described as melodic death metal, but I think a more accurate description would be a fast neo-thrash album with death metal growls, however you want to describe it, it’s a fun 5 track EP that features some very tight playing well a good production.

The five tracks move from one that's fast, and I mean breakneck fast thrash, and then into a slower, more paced number that has some more feel to it, the fast tracks, such as the opener and the title track, work well because of the technical competency of all involved, but I liked the slower bits better, they had some Children Of Bodom flourishes, especially in the vocals department, but it’s the very well done guitar riffs and leads that gave this a true air of quality.

Last track features some more interesting melodies, it's fast but uses some smart riffing. All-in-all this EP is a pleasant surprise, preformed with enthusiasm and quite enjoyable.
