Bloodflowerz: Dark Love Poems
Bloodflowerz - Dark Love Poems - [Silverdust Records]

2006-08-03

Usually when I spot a metal band with a female vocalist I immediately opt for another Nightwish / Within Temptation wanna-be, so if anything, I can say that Bloodflowerz are as different as possible from that, the band is a genuine Goth-rock band with strong 80's Goth leanings accompanied by very modern sound and riffs that come off as punk-rock at times.

The band's third release certainly sounds good, producer/technician Alex Krull (Of Atrocity) has delivered yet another crisp album in his own Mastersound studios, all the instruments sound fine, and the different keyboard and programming elements also sit well in the mix. Another good work has to go for the overall energy put into this album, it certainly feels energetic enough.

The problems are ones that usually go with the Goth-rock territory, mainly that there's quite a lot of repetition in the songs, most of them are based upon similar drum rhythms and guitar riffs, and the vocals, mostly well-done, are also a bit repetitive, this tends to make some of the tracks feel like the same track played over and over again.

Evanescence fans will probably enjoy this anyway, but it will probably be Goth fans and female listeners who will get the most kick out of the severely Goth-imaged lyrics that are strewn throughout, anyone else will probably be put off by this.

This is a good release for its genre, but apart from several cuts, such as the strong opener and the violin oriented "The Fool And The King", it probably wont find acceptance with a wider audience.
