This six-piece band from Italy has decided to promote itself quite bluntly by recording and releasing this three track CDR promo titled “Promo 2k5”.
Abel is Dying play a very dense kind of metalcore with lots of groove and some mild connection to math, although they lack the insanity/intensity (choose whichever suites your definitions best) of other math-core groups such as Sikth for example.
“Dying in your secret” opens with some sampled voices/rhymes/screams and bursts right in with the dense riffs and blasting drumwork, there are some grinds and death metal like nuances as well as a cleaner guitar part escorted by the sick screams - perhaps as a way to sharpen this razor sharp song.
The other two songs, “Red Line” and “My own right”, are equally good and have a more hardcore based approach; the vocals in both are more diverse, it is much more evident that this group has two vocalists.
The only fault I find here is the non-professional sound, being a bit too crisp when it comes to guitars and bass, and not managing to make the drums sound real enough; the vocals are the good part, although they could have been put a tad higher on the mix.
Maybe I’m being too demanding considering this is just a CDR promo, but I’d like to see these guys release full lengths and succeed in the overflown market of metalcore bands.
