Most Precious Blood: Merciless
Most Precious Blood - Merciless - [Trustkill Records]

2005-12-20

Out of the ashes of “Indecision”, back in 2000, rose “Most precious blood” to carry the torch of NYC’s hardcore scene- it was formed by Justin Brannan and Rachel (both were in “Indecision” and do guitars and programming in MPB) as well as Indecision’s original vocalist Tom Sheehan.
This band isn’t like any other ex-members band, but an independent one who started its way in a traditional manner (demos, EP’s, constant touring) without relying on Indecision’s reputation.

This is their third album and like its’ predecessors it holds a simple, stripped down version of hardcore which sends a clear message that the band wishes for hardcore to rise and to reach people’s awareness..

It opens with “Shark Ethic”, it’s not the strongest opener I’ve encountered and the opening part might remind some of “The Corrosion” by Sisters of Mercy; but it sure presents how MPB sound for those of you who don’t know them.
“Driving angry” is a definite improvement, with a lower tempo (that gives it heaviness) as well as the well felt presence of bass player Matt Miller with a Slayer-like bass line.
That stripped down hardcore sound I referred to earlier can be found in “Oxygen Debt” or “A world without music” where in both, drummer Colin Kercz does excellent work.

The highlights in this album must be “World of war” which leads into “Narcoleptic Sleepwalker” and the closing track, “Temporary solution to a permanent problem”, which is also the longest and most produced- giving the band a more interesting shade.

The only thing that bothers me about “Medciless” is the current vocalist, Rob Fusco, whose accent is simply like bad quality beer- hard to get used to and would probably be better if it was another one but at times could still be tolerantable.
