Curl Up And Die: But the Past Ain't Through With Us
Curl Up And Die - But the Past Ain't Through With Us - [Revelation Records]

2003-12-12

An EP that clocks in at 23 minutes has Curl Up
and Die just telling you that Unfortunately,
We’re Not Robots
, their 2002 Revelation
debut, needed a post script. Kurt Ballou of
Converge is behind the boards with a notepad,
trying to figure out just what Mike Minnick is
yelling about. Kurt couldn’t tell, neither could
I, and the lyric sheet could be from almost any
source, since A+B doesn’t equal C when you’re
done with a track like “Nuclear Waste”, or “If
This Band Doesn’t Pan Out We’re Joining The
Army.”

Also, is it still considered ‘Hardcore’ if it’s
this slow? The breakdowns hardcore kids dream
about don’t break down as much as wind down here,
and the band might just know a little too
much
about playing their instruments to
accurately reproduce the kind of rage inherent in
a fan base hell bent on a war with boredom and
other sweaty kids nearby in the club. Still,
you’ve gotta give Curl Up And Die credit for not
joining the army. Yet.
