Ratos de Porao: Sistemados Pelo Crucifa
Ratos de Porao - Sistemados Pelo Crucifa - [Alternative Tentacles Records]

2003-07-30

To anyone who isn’t familiar with R.D.P, they are from Brazil, and probably are the first hardcore band (?) in South America. They were formed in 1981, and still rock to this day.
This album is a re-recording of their first album, the 1983 ‘Crucificados Pelo Sistema’, which was the first hardcore album to come out of South America and put Brazil on the map.
The music R.D.P play is fast and heavy hardcore, and in more rescent albums tends towards the crossover, metal and even grindcore. The songs are part Portuguize and part English, and the lyrics are about politics, life in Brazil, nuclear experiments etc.
The line-up is:
Vocals – Gordo
Bass – Fralda
Guitar – Jao
Drums – Boka
The guitarist was the drummer in the original ’83 album, that appears in the end of this album as a bonus track - which gives a great point of comparisson to the changes in the band’s sound. There are also 2 cover versions, one for the ‘Olho-Seco’ (Brazilian hardcore) and one for the pioneers of Poretuguize punk-rock – ‘Aquidelrock’.
This album was released on the ‘Alternative Tentacles’ Label (by Jello from ‘Dead Kennedys’) after they left ‘Roadrunner’ (or like R.D.P call them – shitrunner or roadshitter).
A must-hear album to anyone who’s into fast and heavy music – recommended.

P.S. for the metalheads: Sepultura did a cover version to R.D.P in their limited edition of the ‘Roots’ album.
