Rollerball and Ovo , two great experimental bands, collaborate on one split CD. Can we ask for more? By capturing the true live and artistic spirit of their joint tour, the big contrast between the bands hangs brightly on "My First Cowboy". While Ovo opens this album with "Demon Paw", a blasphemous grunt, Rollerballs' "Hiperspasm" has a subtle and dubby feel to it, then back again to Ovo, with lazy piano and twisted vocals on "Walker", and the avant noise of "Hagakure". It's not too hard to tell who's doing what, but the dynamics on this album are loose and mysterious, raging from Ovo's hostile anti music to the melodic post rock weirdness of Rollerball. On "Fallout", by Rollerball, someone declares "No, I'm not gonna be a be part of your experiment", but by listening to the entire album, you sure are, letting their enigmatic and (sometimes) demonic musical aims to take control over your mind and perplex it, just for a little while, with great skills and acumen simplicity. This is, by far, one of the best and most fascinating split albums ever made.
