Bad Acid Trip
Interview with: Bad Acid Trip's Keith Aazami
2006-02-17

They may seem insane, but Bad Acid Trip's Lynch the Weirdo is a work of genius.
The band's latest release, Lynch the Weirdo, comes off as Mr. Bungle with hemorrhoids, meaning musically diverse and quite angry.
Having signed with System Of A Down's vocalist Serj Tanakian's Serjical Strike Records, and done shows with System Of A Down and Buckethead, to name but few, the band is steadily injecting some of their madness into the US's MTV sickened crowds.
To find out what goes on in their diseased minds, and just how much do they dislike George Bush, we spoke with Keith Aazami:
Bad Acid Trip

Hey Keith! What is the band currently up to?

Right now we are in the writing process for a new album. We currently have about 10 new songs but we want to have more written before we record, like about 20.
Aside from that we are planning a tour to Europe in Late April or May, nothing fully confirmed yet.

I know that you toured in support of System Of A Down, how did that go?

Went really well, we had a blast doing the tour and we have made a lot of new fans from that tour. We also got to play grind core in major arenas which was really cool. Thanks to all the crew from System & the Volta for their help.

Bad Acid Trip - Lynch the weirdo (album cover)About your latest release, Lynch The Weirdo, what the idea behind the album's title?

Well, we were always the band that was a bit different from your average metal band. Lots of time it seems that we don’t fit into a cookie cutter scene. Sometime it works against us and sometimes it will work with us. Never the less we still play what feels good to us.

The lyrics seem to fluctuate between humoristic and sharply political, what is the band's political view?

(If there's a common one) We’ll I can say that nobody in our band is a fan of George W. Bush. Not a good president but a pretty good serial killer and he’s getting away with it. We need to rid our country of this emperor.

What's the idea behind the album's cover?

The cover we originally wanted to use was not used due to issues and concerns on it containing violent content. We used the weirdo on the cover instead and kept the title of the album.

Can you tell us how you guys started out?

Well it started in about 1989 and Dirk is the original member from that line up. In about 1994 is when I joined and there has been many line up changes since then.
Currently Caleb Schneider is our new bass player and he has been in the band for about a year and a half.

What kind of music did you play when you began?
Grind, noise, punk, and a touch of surf.

Bad Acid Trip

How many albums have you released as of now?
Seven On 7 inch vinyl Two On CD And many songs on comps and various of tape demos.

Your music is an amalgam of a lot of genres, what would you say were your main influences?
We all listen to various styles and genres of music and when we write songs, we all contribute to the stew to create the very spicy Bad Acid Trip.
Some influences are : Brutal Truth, Old Lady Drivers,Mr. Bungle, Secret Chiefs 3, Cryptic Slaughter, Led Zeplin, Primus, Le Scrawl, Spazztic Blurr, Marduk, Bad Brains, Jane’s addiction, King Crimson,Uphillbattle, Fishbone, Helmet, Famtomas, Death, Minor Threat,

How did you end up signing with Serj Tankian's Serjical Strike Records?
Serj approached us and asked us to be on his label and we said yes.

It seems to me that your music has been an influence on System Of A Down's or vice versa, is there truth in that?
I think that we are both fans of each others music and we have similar tastes and influences.

Can you tell us about the Zombie Nation short films you've made?
They are just movies that Dirk shoots on the spot. Gorilla style shooting and it’s just for fun and love of Zombies.

Are you guys' fans of Zombie films? If so, what are your favorites?
Dead Alive, Dawn of the Dead, Cemetery Man, Evil Dead, Evil Dead 2, Night Life

Will you use these films in video clips for your music?
Maybe who knows, one day we could do a music video for “Zombie Nation.”

Bad Acid Trip

You did a show with Buckethead a few days ago, how did that turn out?
That was a really fun show. The sound man let us play El Duce’s Musical Pornography CD over the house while we were setting up. We had a blast playing and Bucket put on a rad set. I especially enjoyed Bucket’s dance moves, they were earth moving.

What are your touring plans now?
We are trying to go to Europe!!!!

Any last word for the fans?
Tell your parents that they fucked up if they voted for Bush. Listen to many genres of music except emo and legalize pot.

Thanks for doing the interview!
