Interview with: Arachnes
2006-01-30

Arachnes have been creating quality power metal for some time now, and have made a name for themselves as one of Italy's best metal outfits.
With a new album about to be released, I seized the chance to speak with three band members, brothers Enzo and Frank and Gabriele:

Hey guys! Let's start with the new album that's soon to be released, what can you tell us about it?

FRANK: Hello to all and thanks for your attention!
The new album “In Praise of Science" arrives after one pause. Primary fear in fact was published in 2003, while now we go out on the world music market at the beginning of 2006. Really it has not been a period of inactivity. In fact we have realized 10 new tracks for TV: we also write musics for tv spots and soundtracks for the greater Italian television group (Mediaset). This kind of experience help us to approach to different musical styles and often you can find its in Arachnes music. I think that IN PRAISE OF SCIENCE is the work musically more complete that we have never composed. It’s more prog, but with a typically European melody, perhaps with less symphonyc accents, it’s a change that we have to do.

The production of the new material that's posted in your site sounds excellent, how did the production of the album go?

ENZO: Like all our albums the new one has been realized in our recording studio where we produce exclusively our works. We have chosen not to use the studio for work outside and that give us a big tranquillity to concentrate us on our works. The technologies used are the most advanced from the point of view of software and hardware, all realized with digital and optic fiber.

I understand some of your music is used in films as well, how did you get into that, and where was it used?

FRANK: As I said to you before, some of our musics has used for some important sport events in Italy, like wrestling or moto GP, others instead used for theatre or cinema.

Can you give us some background on the band's bio, how did you guys start out?

FRANK: It’s a long story...it’s begins in 1986 when I founded the FIREHOUSE with which we realized 2 albums hard rock. In 1998 the ARACHNES, before with Lucretia Records then with Underground Symphony and at the end with Scarlet Records. ARACHNES is more prog, nearest to power and now it returns with dignity to prog, with more complex and articulates styles. In the 2002 we sign with Japanese Avalon-Marquee and publish our cds in Japan, a beautiful goal. Surely ARACHNES name is still in expansion. All these things are interlaced to our solo professional careers, who had time and wants of knowing the details,it can find eveythings on our web site www.arachnes.it.

In what ways do you think your music changed since your first release?

ENZO: When we start our music was more easy, someone in Internet thinks "more hard". I’m not agree, less than for hardness they mean less complex. In the mean time we change to prog and symphonyc, until we had an “ARACHNES SOUND", with melody, fast and heavy rhythm, neoclassic guitar virtuosis and keyboards fusion/jazz style, beacuse my brother had that influence. All for easy listen.

Your last few albums feature great artwork, who did them for you, and what is the idea behind the new album's cover?

GABRIELE: As far as covers we give always an idea to ours label and then it takes care to develop in the best way everything by using the best graphic artist around. The new cover has been realized from a Swedish with the supervision of R.Andreoni that it has already followed ours different artwork.

You state that you're influenced in classical music, in what ways is that evident in your music?

FRANK: Sure in the narrated times, and that is true also for the articulating times narrated and in ours lyrics. With great satisfaction our musical style has become an object of study in one Spanish University. A literature’s teacher has contacted us and ask if he could use our works to illustrate the classic structure of the form! It was a big satisfaction. Easely the classic infuence turns out from guitar phrsing typically violinistic, but it is only an outer aspect, the concept is much more articulated and regards the form.

What kind of shows you did were the ones you enjoyed the most in your career?

GABRIELE: Every time we go on stage, it’s always amusing for different things.I like to play in wide place where our music sound better and for this I remember a concert to one Palace of Sport in Milan, but just for other reason I also remember a concert to the Rainbow of Milan, in the smaller place where you fell the people close!

Your last album, Primary Fear, had a song called Tota Pulchra, I understand it has an interesting story behind it, can you explain?

FRANK: It was a beautifulst experience. The master of organ M.F.Castelli has realized for us this recording. We had access to a real organ liturgic in a cathedral and with our structures of the mobile studio we have done these recordings outside. It was a magical atmosphere to listen that music in a real empty cathedral that it was sound for ARACHNES....

What kind of touring is currently planned for the band?

GABRIELE: In the meantime we are working on our video clip that you’ll also download from our web site! In the future we’ll see...

Thanks and cheers!
