Hell Born
Interview with: Polish black/death metal band - Hell Born
2004-06-20

A: Could you please tell me about the creation of Hell-Born, how the band started?

H: Hell-Born started in 1996 with Baal – voc, drums and Les- guitars. The band released mini-CD “Hell-born” for Pagan Records and split-up shortly after that. In 2000 Hell-Born resurrected with Jeff –bass, and released “Hellblast” album from that moment we can talk about a real existence.

A: Why did you name yourselves hell-born?

H: Because Venom and Slayer were taken, he, he.

A: Hell born has a very 80's thrash feel to it, what were the bands that influenced you?

H: Personally I could mention Possessed, Venom, Necrovore, Morbid Angel. Les was more into European thrash scene like Destruction and Kreator.

Hell Born

A: There seems to quite a developed metal scene in Poland, its most known export being Vader, could you describe the scene for us?

H: Vader and Behemoth are the most well-known bands from Poland but there are a lot of other great bands like Azarath, Hate, Dissenter, Lost Soul, Pandemonium, Decapitated, Devilyn and many more. Most of them have got released CDs and signed contracts with European labels so check them out!

A: Why do you think there is a huge mass of death metal band from Poland, Rather than any other metal type?

H: It is not true. There are also a lot of heavy metal, thrash, nu-metal, hard-core bands in Poland, so death metal is not the most numerous.

A: Why type of shows, and in what countries did hell born appear since its creation?

H: We played one European tour in 2002 with polish bands Yattering, Devilyn and others and two US tours: in 2002 (with LifeSruin and Psychomancer) and in 2003 with Forest of Impaled and Demoncy). And we played several single shows and festivals in England, Belgium, Germany. We have not forgotten about playing in Poland, of course.

A: I know that Les used to play in Damnation, in what other projects are the band member's involved?

H: Damnation split-up couple years ago. Baal and Les play in Hell-Born, Bart and Bruno play in Azarath and Mark plays in Enter Chaos and Demise.

A: Your lyrics seem to concentrate on mystic, and satanic oriented d themes, including the new album's title, which features the word " Nephilim" which is an Hebrew word taken from the old testament, describing the offspring of men and angels, what are your influences and knowledge sources in these subjects?

H: All lyrics are written by Baal and they are his visions of past and the future. They are mystic, apocalyptic and satanic oriented because these are what he feels, what he thinks, what he wants to say.

A: What is the creation process in the band, how are the songs written?

H: Les or I bring the song on rehersal and together we arrange it. If everybody is satisfied the song stays, if we are not, we throw it out.

A: The album's sound is really good, who produced it?

H: Wieslawscy bros from Hertz studio. You can check it out on back cover.

A: What are the band's plans for the coming months?

H: Really soon we’re starting to do new songs for next album. That time on drums will play Lucas (Anima Damnata), because – as you know or not- Chris, who released “Legacy of the nephilim” left us couple months ago.

Well, that's it, thank you for taking the time in answering our questions!
