Rob Johnson: Shredworx
Rob Johnson - Shredworx - [Shredguy Records]

2008-06-25

I was first exposed to hardcore instrumental shredding at a very young age after being assaulted by an album called Marching Out,as many of u know the mastermind virtuoso behind that albums creation is the one and only YNGWIE MALMSTEEN , who went on to create an insane barrage of technical level that upped the anti on any guitarist alive. Rob Johnson is one of those many many players who were inspired by all the greats in shredding, although as many have failed to do, rob has blown past the sound alike clone abilities of 99% of those players, and brother it looks and sounds good on him big time! This album comes off like an angry swarm of wasps attacking the listener from all angles, real metal heavy bass laden riffing is the forte on a lot of the songs, but this is a diverse piece of instrumental work with a ton of influences,Malmsteen,Gilbert,Satrianni to name but a few all being present, but with a fresh approach that says no name except Rob Johnson. Rob has been involved in several other projects ranging from bands to his own instructional dvds ,heres a list of his recorded wizardry up to this point.

-SHRED TACTICS- "instructional DVD"

-MAGNITUDE NINE- "Decoding The Soul"

-MAGNITUDE NINE- "Reality In Focus"

-MAGNITUDE NINE-"Chaos To Control"

-SADDLEBACK SHARK-"the Killing System

-ROB JOHNSON-"Shredworx"

This 15 track album is an interstellar overdrive of soulful shredding and not some methamphetimatic monstrocity burning off an arpeggio at 4000 miles an hour, only to sound like some multi looped cyborg. The album as a whole is a great effort, i have several favourites songs that are, Supercharged, Guitarchitecture, End Of Days(the only song with vocals), and Divided By Three. Here is a track by track list for Shredworx.

1)Forcefield

2)Guitarchitecture

3)Metaphsical

4)Jinxed

5)Supercharged

6)Gravity Pulling Me

7)Seven String Rhetoric

8)Divided By Three

9)Relay Torque

10)Soul Chuckles

11)Subliminal Dream

12)Instant Vibe Potion

13)Dance Of The Master Gods

14)End Of Days

15)Blistered
