Asmodeus X: Wolf Age
Asmodeus X - Wolf Age - [Black Pepper Records]

2003-06-22

Asmodeus X we’re once in a horrible bus accident after a tour of the west coast apparently that accident had caused substantial equipment damage and thrown the band directly into the early 90s and that’s why “wolf age” sounds like early electro experiments played over mini-organs. Cult of the Naassarene upgrade with guitar player Frank Faust (apocalypse 9) has become an interesting phenomena.
“wolf age” is a pretty diverse or messed up concept album (depends on the listener).
The main style is very early 90s but the production level doesn’t match any decade standards. The synths seems to be cheap Rolands and at some points even god forbid Yamaha PS mini-organ. Faust tries to cover up with excellent industrial sound and good violent rhythmics. It seems like Asmodeus X are trying to bring crapy sound back into fashion. “songs of glory” is a good example to that.
A simple and catchy song with terrible retro sound. Kind of “the brews” for the electro world.
Of coarse how could there by any good (and several bad) industrial-goth production without at least one song in German. “MuZ” is a mid-tempo industrial straining to sound like an underground production of Rammstein.
The main song in the album "wolf in the sky" (elected for the sound track of the movie SHUT EYE) has nothing to do with the general genre.
A kind of British rock ballad that start with a fog horn and based on acoustic guitars and hymnal chorus.
Actually all of the songs after “nightstalking“ are a complete mess of styles and genre completely unconnected to the main theme.
Specially the bonus track “point me in the direction of Albuquerque” that seems to be an inbreed of R.E.M with Pulp.
Although performances with artists such as Diva Destruction and Nocturne the album lacks professionalism, polish and any kind of determined direction.
