Naglfar: Sheol
Naglfar - Sheol - [Century Media]

2003-04-22

“SHEOL – Hebrew, the invisible world of departed souls, also known as HELL.”
Emerging from the tides of the black horizons, the sailing vessel carved from the fingernails of dead warriors, accompanied by entities of five dread lords, ushering the Apocalypse.
“Aftermath... Call for my return!” Jens Ryden screams in anger and they have return in full rage in their third album after five years of silence.

For some reason (and a good one) Naglfar have been always in the shade of Dissection, their debut album VITTRA had a lot of Dissection influences in the music, followed up by their DIABOLICAL one and yet this shade failed to be removed from them. Five years have passed since then, not to include their lousy EX INFERIS ep, and a new album in the someway unique title of SHEOL, comes up from them. Well apparently they have done a lot of thinking in these years, and might even take the critics about their similarities to Dissection, a bit hard.

Havocking riff starts the album with the line “Humanity, what have you ever done for me?” in the spitting voice of Jens Ryden (also known with his solo project Dead Silent Slumber). The guys came to conclusion that if they can not step aside from the influence of Dissection, it will be better to dethrone the kings. SHEOL brings forth fierce, hatred upon mankind, in the shape of fast yet melodic guitar parts and hateful blackish screams. The rhythm section sending forth its Death Metal waves and the vocals are a good mix of Shagrath from Dimmu Borgir and Danni Filth. The blend of these two parts invokes one devastating album and in fact this is the best released materiel from this band up to date.
A new breeze comes forth from the open gates of hell, and it’s called SHEOL.
