Dominion Black: Fearbringer
Dominion Black - Fearbringer - [Poison Arrow Records]

2006-09-09

Finland's Dominion Black have created quite a potent album in the form of Fearbringer, the band's immediate appeal may be vocalist "The Sentinel" Killgast's vocal similarity to the famed Tim "Ripper" Owens, but the band's music is quite a force to be reckoned with itself.

Starting off the album with one of its strongest cuts, "Ultra-Speed Destructor" is 80's thrash benefiting from Killgast's fantastic vocals; the chorus is a metal classic, bringing to mind Exodus and Annihilator, great stuff.
Nightmare Asylum offers less immediate gratification, and brings to mind a King Diamond song with great lead breaks thrown in for good measure.

The album sound good, a clear sound, a bit less polished than I like, but its still very well done, Traitor Within starts off with some dark keyboard work, maintaining the band's self description as "Horror Metal", the music still bears that King Diamond Goth vibe, very good guitar work all the way. Haunted Hellhouse again sounds like classic 80's metal; I can't really find any fault with the band's delivery, this has a definite air of quality.

Certainly one of most pleasant surprises this year, Dominion Black manage to capture the magic of classic 80's melodic metal while maintaining a fresh and powerful edge, can't wait for their next.
