Avenging Angels: Fragmentary Reality
Avenging Angels - Fragmentary Reality - [Self Produced]

2006-07-11

I couldn’t read too much about this German death metal combo since their bio is only listed in German, but from what I could gather they were established in 2000 and are described as creating thrash/death metal, I would describe their music more like melodic death metal with twin vocals, a-la Carcass, meaning- one does the lower growl and one the screamier version, this, their debut, is self produced, but doesn’t sound too bad for such an album.

The band has somewhat of a Swedish death metal sound to the guitars, pretty deep and raw, the vocalists do a fine job with the double screaming, and they manage to have a nice rhythm throughout most of the songs, the guitars tend to disappear at times in the mix but apart from that the sound is quite decent.

Some of the songs could do with a bit more diversity, they are quite complex, but they lack a real diversity in the melodies; they do manage to pull off some impressive riffs, such as some of the ones in “Misleading Words”, the 4th track.

This isn’t the best death metal album I've heard, but with a proper sound and more color in the songs, this band can create a really good second album, hopefully signed by then.
