My Chemical Romance: Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge
My Chemical Romance - Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge - [Reprise Records]

2006-03-14

You can never outguess American record companies about what will be the next fab in the music industry, I mean, Hip Hop always sells something, boy bands always sell enough for the teen age females, but what about rock music? Will it be the next White Stripes album? A new Korn album? Well, My Chemical Romance are the answer, a self described "tragic rock" band, they actually create alternative-oriented punk rock with nasal vocals and a panache for whining, but with a good dose of humor as well.

Song move from Naughty, such as “Give 'Em Hell Kid “and “I'm Not Okay”, two ready made hits, to the tragic tear jerkers, such as “The Ghost Of You”, and it all ticks firmly into the formula.

I have to say, I'm not a fan of producer's Howard Benson's sound, a bit too raw for me, as were some of his former production jobs, but it doesn’t harm the band's sex appeal and listener friendly songs, not a complicated number in site, its all good, clean and friendly fun with a wicked sense of humor that helps keep things firmly in check from reverting to kitsch.

It’s not a great album, by any stretch, and the vocals did give me the occasional spasm, but its still simple American fun.
