Seven Witches: Amped
Seven Witches - Amped - [Regain Records]

2005-12-19

Seven Witches are a Canadian 80's inspired power metal band, centered around the irrefutable talent of the mega-busy guitarist Jack Frost, also of Savatage and The Bronx Casket fame.

These is the band's sixth release, and their first with former Hades vocalist Allan Tecchio, and though it continues in the same old-school leanings that their former albums had, there's something amiss that makes this album, in my opinion, one of their weaker releases.

Their best vocalist by far was, in my opinion, Wade Black, he sometimes went overboard with his high pitched screams, but he had an energy and conviction that few other vocalists have, and though Tecchio is capable enough, he doesn’t have enough flare to elevate what is the main problem with this album, not enough good riffs.

Most of the time, Frost doesn’t miss a bit with his playing, but the album just doesn’t seem to have enough good tunes to make it the equal of some of their stronger releases.

There are some redeeming tracks, Sunnydale High has a nice, simple riff, as does Dishonor Killing, but they're just not enough to save the album, it may still be better then many other power and melodic metal albums by lesser albums, but compared to their former output, its just does not manage to equal it.
