Red Tape: Radioactivist
Red Tape - Radioactivist - [Roadrunner Records]

2005-07-20

Radioactivist by Red Tape is a catchy metalcore album, a real party album. When I first heard the album I could have sworn it was taken from a teen movie soundtrack like Road Trip or something. I believe Roadrunner Records' money wasn't thrown away on this band. The rhythm of Jeff Jawrowski, the singer, is very reminiscent of an aggressive version of Sum 41 perhaps, but he steers clear from that comparison with his vocals and especially with the Thrashy elements that fit into the band's rhythm.
Amir Derakh, the producer of the album, must be pleased. He already produced Coal Chamber and system Of A Down, and he is letting the guys go wild with some metalcore tracks like High Revoltage or El Salvador, but you can find your fair share of punk tracks on this album, The Waltz, Social Meltdown and Strike Tonight, to name a few.
Jeff is the mastermind when it comes to composing the songs and writing their lyrics. The singer is also the guitarist, but he's not underlining his guitar. The one is more in the spotlight is Twig Von Wussow, the bass player who also supplies backing vocals. As for drumming, J.D gives the what-you-can-expect rhythm from a punk-metalcore band. He's inevitably heard, but it's not an exceptional drumming in this genre. You can't find J.D in the band anymore. The drummer has decided to retire from the music world in order to settle down and spend more time with his family. His heir is Eric Halseth, and together with him the band plans to do some shows in the San-Francisco area. The band also gave its promise to work on some new material, which possibly will be on display on one of those shows.
