By Night: Burn The Flags
By Night - Burn The Flags - [LifeForce Records]

2005-07-09

By Night evolved from the former namesake Predicted Conspiracy, besides the much easier moniker, they have also turned into a more aggressive sounding band, taking its queue from such as Meshugga and In Flames, with a metal-core element on top.

They are certainly very accomplished, and highly technical sounding, with a good, solid sound to top thing up.

Musically, I would certainly pinpoint Meshugga as the main influence, with the vocals and some of the riffs being more metal-core'ish in nature, though most of the riffing are somewhat progressive e versions of In Flames and Dark Tranquility ones.

The opening riff of Between The Lines is a mood-setter, not in the atmospheric sense, but in the technical one, a good Meshugga one, with great technical drumming, something which continues throughout the album.

Probably the best riff there is the first one in Behind In Silence, there are plenty of other good ones, but at times the riffing takes a more drone-like capacity, and they can get boring at times, something also reminiscent of Meshugga.

Those in a technical, somewhat progressive/aggressive mode of though will have plenty to ogle at here, I had mixed emotions about this.
