Baysix: Death By Misadventure
Baysix - Death By Misadventure - [Casket Music]

2004-05-26

Baysix is a group of young British lads, displaying some real talent and aggression,
Their style can be described as an amalgam of punk, hard-core and metal core, combining harsh, raspy vocals with melodic, clean ones.

The album is short, and to the point, the tracks never outstaying their welcome, meaning, around the three minute time frame, which leaves very few wasted bits.
The opening track, Time To Do This Right, is a short aggressive number, definitely more punk in nature, it has a good opening riff, and though the clean vocals need a bit of polish, they are quite good, and when combined with the harsher ones, paint a much more complete picture.

The band has a major plus in its guitarists, they use both punk and hard-core riffing with some metal-core ones, a la Machine Head, with the opening one on track three being pure Davidian.
The sound needs some work, especially the drum sound, which comes of as plastic and hallow on several tracks, which is a shame, since the drummer is quite talented, but as a whole it works well in maintaining the album’s rawer, energetic edge.

Stand out tracks are the third, Broke Me Not, and one surprising gem, the metal-core oriented “Wasted Generation” with its catchy chorus, featuring a nifty Biohazard-like drum section.

Since this is their debut album, I can clearly see these lads polishing their sound and vocals a bit, and becoming a serious contender for best British, hard/metal core band.
